Mèo Ba Tư truyền thống, hay mèo Ba Tư thuần chủng, là “khởi thủy” của tất cả giống mèo trên. Chúng xuất hiện tại Ba Tư (nay là Iran) từ hàng nghìn năm trước, và phổ biến ra thế giới vào thế kỷ 17, theo các đoàn thuyền buôn từ châu Âu đến giao thương với vùng Trung Đông giàu có.
