Khi nhắc tới khái niệm “đạo đức kinh doanh”, người ta thường cho rằng đó là một yếu tố rất trừu tượng hoặc không thực tế. Nhưng thực tế lại cho thấy mức độ phát triển bền vững của doanh nghiệp gắn liền với đạo đức kinh doanh, sự tăng trưởng về lợi nhuận gắn liền với việc nghiêm túc tuân thủ đạo đức kinh doanh.
Theo ông Phillip V. Lewis, giảng viên trường Đại học Abilene Christian, Hoa Kỳ “Đạo đức kinh doanh là tất cả những quy tắc, tiêu chuẩn, chuẩn mực đạo đức hoặc luật lệ để chỉ dẫn hành vi ứng xử chuẩn mực và sự trung thực (của một tổ chức) trong những trường hợp nhất định”.
