Đặc biệt là với những tác phẩm của tác gia lớn của văn học hiện thực phê phán Anh, chúng có một tầm khái quát rộng lớn và phản ánh khá toàn diện xá hội nước Anh đương thời. Xuất phát từ những vấn đề được nêu ở trên, bài nghiên cứu này được tiến hành với mục đích phân tích tác phẩm trên để nêu bật lên được bức tranh xã hôi đen tối của tầng lớp thống trị nước Anh thế kỉ 19 với những thói hư,tật xấu, sự thối nát cũng như sa đoạ của họ, đồng thời cũng chuyển tải ước vọng cùng những thông điệp mà tác giả muốn gởi đến bạn đọc qua những đoạn văn châm biếm sâu cay đó.
