Lễ hội diễn ra tại khu di tích Lam Kinh thuộc xã Xuân Lam, huyện Thọ Xuân, Thanh Hóa. Cứ vào ngày 22 tháng 8 âm lịch hàng năm, đây là lễ hội nhằm tưởng nhớ và tôn vinh vị anh hùng dân tộc Lê Lợi và những danh tướng của cuộc khởi nghĩa Lam Sơn như Lê Lai, Lê Thạch…
Trong lễ hội,có 2 nghi thức chính đó là: nghi thức rước kiệu từ lăng vua Lê Thái Tổ về đền thờ và nghi thức dâng hoa tưởng niệm. Hai nghi thức được tổ chức rất trang trọng . Phần hội sẽ là các chương trình nghệ thuật có các sự kiện như: Lê Lai cứu chúa, Vua Lê Thái Tổ đăng quang, ...
Trong các ngày diễn ra lễ hội còn có những trò chơi truyền thống của xứ Thanh như: trò Chiêng, dân ca sông Mã, thi đấu vật, đấu võ dân tộc; .,., và nhiều hoạt động nghệ thuật khác như: biểu diễn chèo, …
Lễ hội mang đậm nét văn hóa dân gian truyền thống tạo nên dấu ấn của một vùng đất anh hùng đồng thời góp phần bảo tồn nền văn hoá của dân tộc.
