Năm nay, giữa nhừng ngày mùa thu tươi đẹp, nhân dân ta cùng bạn bè quốc tế kỷ niệm sự kiện trọng đại: 70 năm Cách mạng Tháng Tám và Quốc khánh 2-9 (1945-2015). 70 năm đã trôi qua nhưng tầm vóc lịch sử, ý nghĩa sâu sắc và những bài học cách mạng vô giá của sự kiện này vẫn còn tươi mới và giữ nguyên giá trị.
Cuộc Cách mạng Tháng Tám năm 1945 nổ ra và kéo dài hơn 2 tuần lễ. Dưới sự lãnh đạo của Đảng Cộng sản Việt Nam và Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh, nhân dân ta đã đứng lên khởi nghĩa đánh đổ ách thống trị của thực dân Pháp và phát xít Nhật, giành chính quyền, xây dựng Nhà nước độc lập đầu tiên ở Đông Nam Á, chấm dứt đêm dài nô lệ hơn 80 năm, đưa nhân dân lên địa vị người làm chủ đất nước. Ngay từ những ngày đầu tiên của chính quyền đã thể hiện rõ là chính quyền của dân, do dân và vì dân. Trong thành phần Chính phủ do Chủ tịch Hồ Chí Minh đứng đầu bao gồm các nhân sĩ trí thức, đại diện công nhân, nông dân, các tôn giáo, là hình ảnh tiêu biểu cho khối đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc. Nhiệm vụ ưu tiên của Chính phủ là chống giặc ngoại xâm, chống giặc dốt và giặc đói. Về ngoại xâm đó là việc thực dân Pháp tuy thất bại vẫn lăm le quay lại nô dịch nhân dân ta. Cùng với đó là phong trào xóa mù chữ lan rộng trong cả nước. Chính với tinh thần yêu nước nồng nàn và sự lãnh đạo đúng đắn của Đảng, sự hy sinh gương mẫu của đảng viên mà trong muôn vàn khó khăn, nhân dân ta đều vượt qua.
Được hưởng hòa bình ngắn ngủi chỉ hơn một năm nhưng đó là thời gian quí giá để chúng ta chuẩn bị nhân tài vật lực cho cuộc chiến đấu lâu dài bảo vệ độc lập chủ quyền đất nước. Số phận lịch sử khắc nghiệt khiến nhân dân ta phải tiến hành hai cuộc chiến tranh chống xâm lược kéo dài 30 năm. Chống lại kẻ thù xâm lược mạnh hơn gấp nhiều lần cả kinh tế, quân sự, kỹ thuật là thực dân Pháp và đế quốc Mỹ, Đảng ta đã lãnh đạo nhân dân ta tiến hành cuộc chiến tranh nhân dân lâu dài, toàn diện, sử dụng cả ba thứ quân là bộ đội chủ lực, bộ đội địa phương và dân quân tự vệ , dùng sức mạnh của khối đại đoàn kết dân tộc, kết hợp sức mạnh dân tộc và sức mạnh thời đại nhờ đó đã dành thắng lợi vĩ đại. Công cuộc đổi mới là một kỳ tích của bản lĩnh trí tuệ Việt Nam, đã đạt được ba thành tựu quan trọng: Chính trị xã hội ổn định, an ninh trật tự xã hội được giữ vững; kinh tế tăng trưởng, đời sống nhân dân từng bước được cải thiện; quan hệ đối ngoại được mở rộng, địa vị và uy tín của Việt Nam được nâng cao trên trường quốc tế.
70 năm đã qua, nước Việt Nam độc lập tự chủ đã giành được nhiều thành tựu to lớn rất đáng tự hào.Từ thực tiễn lịch sử đã qua cho nhiều bài học vô giá cho công cuộc đổi mới, hợp tác và hội nhập quốc tế, tiến hành công nghiệp hóa, hiện đại hóa đất nước. Đó là bài học về tinh thần độc lập, tự chủ, tự lực tự cường, dựa vào nội lực, không trông chờ ỷ lại vào bên ngoài. Đó là xây dựng khối đại đoàn kết toàn dân tộc tạo nên thế trận lòng dân mạnh mẽ và vững chắc.
