창립 100주년을 맞이한 BMW가 미래의 또 다른 100년을 예상하는 비전 넥스트 100 컨셉트(Vision Next 100 Concept)를 공개했다. 비전 넥스트 100 컨셉트는 단순한 상상 속의 자동차가 아니라 우리가 실제로 접할 수 있는 자동차를 제안하고 있다.

디자인은 BMW의 스타일을 유지하면서 공기저항을 최소화시키는 형태를 갖췄다. 특유의 키드니 그릴은 과거 BMW를 연상시키도록 세로로 긴 형태를 갖췄다. 헤드램프는 가는 줄의 형태로 단순하게 처리했다.



전체적으로 하나의 덩어리 형태로 디자인된 형태는 공기저항을 감소시키기 위함이다. 길이는 4.9미터 수준이지만 높이는 1.37미터에 불과하다. 매우 낮은 형태의 윈드실드와 루프라인을 갖췄기 때문이다. 외부 패널은 휠까지 덮을 정도다. 덕분에 비전 넥스트 100 컨셉트는 공기저항지수가 0.18Cd에 불과한 수치를 갖는다.



비전 넥스트 100 컨셉트의 가장 큰 특징은 얼라이브 지오메트리(Alive Geometry)라는 이름의 기능이다. 스티어링휠을 조작하면 바퀴만 움직이는 것이 아니라 휠을 감싼 외부 패널까지 같이 움직이는 형태다.
